"Economic Power"- a slightly troubling term. maybe this is a simplistic and old-fashioned question but can power attained within a system of power dependent on the inequitable distribution of resources become more than just another arm of that system? When do Martha, Oprah, and Jenna become more than exceptions that sustain the status and the rule? I mean, ordinary women still earn less than their male counterparts; and ordinary black women are still in terribly tight spots that the politics of race, feminism, and economics haven't cracked open. How do we perform power and acquire power that empowers communities?
