Oh, I can see how it would apply, and in part because some men in the movement are sexist, thereby repeating exactly some of the things they seek to abolish in other parts of their lives, the voices of women and people of all races are needed to balance the scales.

But when I personally struggle with my own beliefs about anarchism, I tend to (perhaps wrongly) see my tendency to veer away from it as feminine. I do think that the concept of the state is inherently oppressive, but in my most optimistic vision of government I see it as a barrier between power and weakness in society. So my fear of anarchism is probably mostly a failure of imagination combined with a fear of the unknown. I guess that's why anarchism isn't as popular as it should be, but sometimes I wonder if women have an even stronger tendency than men to see anarchism as desolate. They are stereotyped as civilizing influences, and this is reflected by their prominence in such regulatory initiatives as the temperance movement, gun control, Mothers Against Drunk Driving, etc. So I think the modern woman's notion of her own independence and safety can be very tied to legislative achievements of the past or maybe even the sense of protection provided by a government.
